Omar Lateef is a South Indian model and actor who works in the Kollywood and also the Bollywood film industry. Omar’s origins trace back to Kashmir. He is the son of Mohammad Lateef and the grandson on Haji Ghulam Muhammad Wani. His grandfather shifted to Chennai in 1946 and opened an antique shop named Kashmir Art Palace in the 1950’s. This was also called The Old Curiosity Shop by foreign customers back then, like the one in London. The shop is now managed by his father.

Though born in Kashmir, he was raised in Chennai. His family owns a fruit orchid in Kashmir. His family speaks Urdu at home but is fluent in Tamil. He specialized in English from the Annamalai University in Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu. He started his modeling career in 1999. Omar made his film debut with the Tamil comedy movie Poi Solla Porom, directed by Vijay. The film is a remake of the Bollywood comedy Khosla Ka Ghosla. He played the role of Vishwanathan alias Vichu in the film. The movie hit the screens on 12th September 2008. He then acted in the Tamil film Paiyaa written and directed by N. Linguswamy. He played the role of the lead character Shiva’s friend.

The movie won five nominations at the Filmfare Awards in the Tamil Film Industry in 2014 and it hit the screens on 2nd April 2010. Omar made his Bollywood debut with the Hindi film Bum Bum Bole directed by Priyadarshan. The film was a remake of Majid Majidi’s Iranian movie Children of Heaven in 1997. The movie hit the screens on 14th May 2010. He then acted in the Tamil romance movie Madrasipattinam directed by Vijay. He played the role of Kabir in the film. The movie won six nominations for the Filmfare Award in the Tamil Film Industry in 2011 and the movie hit the screens on 9th July 2010.

He then worked in the Tamil comedy movie Bramman written and directed by Socrates. He played the role of Maapillai in the movie. The movie hit the screens on 21st February 2014. He acted the trilingual movie Devi (L) directed by A. L. Vijay. He received an inhouse award for the role. Omar’s latest project is the director A. L. Vijay’s upcoming movie Vanamagan. The movie is set to release in July 2017.
