Ramasamy, also known as Murugiah Ramasamy, is a prominent Indian actor, playwright, and professor. Ramasamy was born in the year 1951, on the 4th of December. His place of birth is Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Ramasamy acquired his education from Thiru Vi Ka High School in Shenoy Nagar. He holds a bachelor's degree in Physics. He did his graduation from St. Xavier's College in Palayamkottai. It was during the uprise of the Davidian movement that Ramasamy developed explicit inclination and love towards the Tamil Literature, and hence he did M.A in Tamil literature.

He has also done a Ph.D. in theatrical drama, under the guidance of Professor Shanmugam Pillai and has worked on the subject of Tamil Nadu and its folk theatres. His name gets immense respect in the theatres of Madurai. Ramasamy was also called as Koothu by his peers.Ramasamy, along with his companions, formed a theatrical group named Nija NatakaIyakam, earlier named as the Real Theatre Movement. The ultimate aim of this group was to educate and make people entirely engaged.Ramasamy has written and staged many plays. His famous one is the ‘Antigone,’ which was adapted in Tamil and named Duriga Avalam. The theatre got appreciated and got considered to be very impactful.

The play was presented at the 'Festival of National School of Drama' in Bangalore. His other works include Kalagakkarar Thozhar Periyar, Padukavalan, Periya Pazhuvettaaraiyar. He has produced Vali Arrupu in collaboration and involvement with the transgender community. Ramasamy is also known for translating the plays of Bertolt Brecht and G. Sankara Pillai. Ramasamy, when he puts himself into the shoes of an actor, performs marvelously. He lives the character which he plays and completely justifies the role.
