Ramakrishnan Murthy is a Carnatic vocalist. He is a regular performer at the annual Madras Music Season, as well as at music festivals around the world that focus on Indian Classical music. He is an All India Radio and Doordarshan A-grade artist from Chennai. Ramakrishnan started studying Carnatic music with smt. Padma Kutty in Irvine in 1997. He took advanced violin classes with P. Shariramkumar is currently his mentor. After completing his undergraduate studies in June 2011, Ramakrishnan moved permanently to Chennai and started taking Carnatic music lessons full-time.
Since then, he has appeared at many Indian and international music events, such as the Madras Music Academy, while accompanied by almost all of today's well-known artists. Ramakrishnan has also performed playback singing for movies, making his debut with the song "Nalla Namban" from the 2012 movie Nanban, composed by Harris Jayraj. Ramakrishnan has also performed at various international festivals in the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Australia, and the United Kingdom. He used Karnatic as a way to express himself. He thinks that an artist has to improve the listener's experience while being true to the art.
