H Raja was born on 29th September 1957 in Melattur, Tamil Nadu. He is a prominent politician in Tamil Nadu and is a member of the Bhartiya Janta Party. Raja comes from a simple Brahmin family from the village of Melattur. Growing up, Raja had no dreams to work as a politician as he simply wanted to work well and provide for his family.

After completing his schooling in Melattur, Raja joined the Madurai Kamaraj University and he pursued commerce as his subject. Upon graduating, Raja decided to also study law, and he successfully completed his law degree too. He is presently working as a chartered accountant. During his college days, Raja was drawn very much to the ideologies of Sangh. Hence he joined RSS and also served as the Mukhyasikshak from 1974 to 1976. At this time, Raja had decided that politics is the field he wants to join.

Raja was always a bright person growing up, he had amazing oratory skills and is also very well versed in three languages, namely: Tamil, Hindi and English. Being a smart man, Raja soared his way through the RSS as he would leave the audiences and the pubic spell-bound through his speeches. He continued to work for the RSS, and simultaneously also joined the BJP in 1980.  He acted as the district secretary of the Hindu Munnani from the years 1988 to 1990. In 1989, Raja contested his first-ever assembly elections. In 1991, Raja was awarded the position of District Convenor of the Sivaganga district by the BJP.

Raja has always had a clean image and has never been involved in any cases of corruption, this has always helped his political career. In 1993, Raja was given the charge as the State Secretary. In 1995, Raja organized one of the biggest ever state conferences in Madurai. Raja comes from a family of farmers, hence he has always been close with the farming community as well. In 2001, Raja won the legislative assembly elections and served as the MLA from 2001 to 2006.

As brilliant as a politician Raja has been, he is equally a great Chartered accountant. In 2005, The Institute of Chartered Accountant awarded him the Role Model award for his excellent work as a CA and also projecting a great image for the brand of accountancy.
