Ranjith is a very famous and versatile south Indian singer. He has a vibrant personality and can make the crowd tap their feet with his energetic songs, can make them emotional with his soothing voice and is a mass entertainer. He was born on February 21, 1977. He is a very well-known playback singer and has worked for many films. He is mainly working for the Karnataka, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam film industries. Ranjith was born in a Malayali family, in Chennai. His family belongs to a small town, Kalluvazhi, Kerala. Ranjith grew up listening to various types of music he stayed in a society where social-programmes were a trend. The localities used to participate in these programmes. Once, a family friend suggested training Ranjith for classical music.
He is trained in Hindustani music and Carnatic music by Vidwan Cuddalore Subramanian, K. S. Kanakasingam, Trichur P. Ramankutty and P. S. Narayana Swamy. In the year 2001, he won a show named SUN TV Saptha Swarangal; through which he became famous. Ranjith is married to a Bharatanatyam dancer Reshmi Menon. They have a daughter named Ria. Ranjith has sung over 800 songs including languages, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. He has also learned western classical music from Mr. Augustine Paul. He is not only a singer but also plays various instruments which include guitar, piano, and mridangam.
These instruments helped him to broaden his horizon of music. He has also composed music for a famous show called PANCHAMUKHI. PANCHAMUKHI is a dance production which includes styles like Bharatanatyam, Mohiniattam, Kathakali and different types of folk dances performed by trained dancers. He is also a part of the band DRISHTI. DRISHTI has participated in many immense events and has shared with singers like KK, Colonial brothers, Pritam. Ranjith has also performed with AR Rehman in many of his abroad concerts, which are THE UNITY OF LIGHT, and THE 3-DIMENSIONAL TOUR. He has done concerts in countries like USA, Australia, France, Germany, UK, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia. In the year 2012, Ranjith won the MAA music award.
Sharmila is a professional playback singer, rapper and lyricist in South India. Other than singing, she is also known for rapping. Sharmila has rapped songs like Alaika Alaika from the movie Thuppakki starring Tamil actor Ilayathalapathy Vijay and actress Kajal Agarwal. Sharmila has also rapped a song from the Tamil movie Theeya Vela Seiyanum Kumaru starring Siddharth and Hansika Motwani. Sharmila is said to select only peppy songs to perform and not explore sentimental and melody songs. When asked for the reason behind this preference, she says that she feels fast paced songs are more suitable to her voice and that maybe the reason for the music directors also to suggest mostly pop songs to her.
Even while giving live performances on stage, Sharmila prefers to sing live and energetic songs compared to soulful, soothing music as she does not like to stand at a spot and sing. Sharmila was introduced as a singer, lyricist, and rapper in a single song by Tamil music director Vijay Anthony. She feels very blessed and privileged to have gotten this opportunity from an established composer. Sharmila is always grateful to him for introducing her in the field. Her debut song was Kadhalikka Pen Oruthi for the movie Vedi starring actors Vishal and Sameera Reddy in lead roles directed by Prabhu Deva which released in the year 2011. This song was sung by Andrea Jeremiah, Emcee Jezs and Naresh Iyer and Sharmila wrote and sung the rap part. Her debut song became a spark in her career as it led to offers of various other songs especially having recognized her talent as a rapper.
Sharmila has then rapped in the song Mascara in the movie Salim with Vijay Anthony as the lead actor and music director which released in the year 2014. Sharmila has worked in many songs with the music director Harris Jayaraj. Some of their collaborations include Tamil movies like Nanban, Ko, 7 am Arivu, Oru Kal Oru Kannadi, Yennai Arindhal, and many more. She has also performed in many of his live concerts. These live concerts gave her a big opening as it gave Sharmila the opportunity to sing with many great established musicians. She was part of Harris Jayaraj's world tour, and she got the chance to sing songs sung by other singers too. Sharmila had given a demo to Harris Jayaraj and was waiting for a call from him for about two years. When she was about to give up hope, she suddenly received a call from him. After that, she started doing a lot of harmonies and backup singing.
