Sripriya is a south Indian cine actress who also acted in some serials. She has acted in all south Indian languages, though her major contribution is to Tamil film industry where she has acted in over 200 films. She has ventured into direction now and is busy with Tamil and Telugu projects.

Sripriya was born in a family of professional musicians. Many of her relatives are lead classical musicians in the state. She debuted in the movie ‘Murugan Kaattiya Vazhi’ in the year 1973. She was praised for her fearless performance before camera for the first time. Sivakumar was one of those who predicted that she would be a great star later, and indeed his prediction didn’t go wrong.

Sripriya starred alongside the great actors Sivaji Ganesan, Jaishankar, Gemini Ganesan, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan in Tamil movies. Her frequent pairs were Rajini and Kamal. With Rajini, she acted in over 28 movies and that was because of the perfect chemistry the couple shared on-screen. Next to Rajini, it was Kamal with whom she shared the screen the most, second only to Sridevi. She considers them to be her best mates in Tamil cinema, and said that she learnt a lot from them, especially Kamal who taught her to dance. Her famous movies include ‘Ilamai Oonjaladukirathu’, ‘ Billa’, ‘Annai Oru Alayam’.

Sripriya, in addition to writing stories for cinemas and serials, has acted in serials like ‘Chinna Pappa Periya Pappa’, ‘ Anandham’, ‘Imsai Arasigal’ and also directed 5 serials. Her favourite among them is ‘Viduthalai’ since her best friend Raadhika Sarathkumar acted in it. She took to direction and has directed ‘ Malini 22 Palayamkottai’. But it did not perform well at the box office. She recently directed a Telugu movie ‘Drushyam’ having Venkatesh in the lead.

Sripriya leads a very good personal life. She has donated the funds raised through her paintings to child welfares. She has said that all her life revolves around cinema and that a women’s success is because of her family, since she experienced it personally with her mom and sister being her backbone before getting married.

Sripriya was awarded the Kalaimamani in the 1980s and has been the jury for National awards and State awards committee.

Uma Riyaz Khan (born Uma) is a Tamil actress who appears in supportive roles in movies.
