Rohini is a multi-talented South Indian actress, director, and lyricist. She mainly appears in Tamil and Malayalam movies. She started her acting career at the age of 5. Rohini came into the film industry because of her father's keen interest in cinema. Her father Apparao Naidu wanted to become an actor and he approached the director of Yashoda Krishna movie, but the director needed a child artist for doing the role of Krishna. Finally, his eyes fell on the small 5-year-old girl, and she became Krishna. The little Rohini didn’t like the film sets she liked to go to school and continue her education. But her father told her that she is destined to be an actor and could continue the studies privately.
Later Little Rohini, who once hated the film sets, was flying from one set to another. Her career as an actress bloomed after the movie ‘Stri’. She received National Film Award and Andhra Pradesh state award for the category of Best Actress. She completed almost 130 movies as an actress. She has appeared in almost all the south Indian languages.
Rohini was married to the famous actor ‘Raghuvaran’ in 1996 and the couple got separated in 2004. They have one son.
Her entry to the dubbing field was also a sudden decision. She dubbed for famous directors. In Mani Ratnam's movies, she gave voice for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in ‘Raavanan’, Jyothika Saravanan in Vettaiyadu Villaiyadu, Manisha Koirala in ‘Bombay’ etc. She also dubbed for Girija Shettar in ‘Geethanjali’ an evergreen hit romantic movie. She has written lyrics for 2 movies Pachaikili Muthucharam and Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakathilaey. Silent hues was her first directorial venture. It was a documentary on child artists in film field. She featured in the interview with child artists and their family. It’s a 50 minute documentary. The second one she directed was Appavin Meesai. She also hosted a live talk show on Vijay TV "Kelvigal Aayiram" in 2003. She started writing scripts for TV serials and hosted many programs. Rohini is a south Indian actress who is highly talented and has worked in 130 South Indian movies. She displayed her talent and professionalism right from her childhood days. She has been acting right since she was five. Her first film was ‘ Bhakta Kannappa’ (1976). Later, she performed in three or four movies as a child artiste in Telugu films.
Even though her success graph in Kollywood and Mollywood is highly commendable one, she was one of the busiest actresses in the industry during the 1980s. Her father Apparao Naidu always felt that she could shine like a star, and he introduced Rohini to the director who was making the mythological film ‘Yashoda Krishna,' where she played the role of child Krishna. The film was a huge hit and despite the fact that she did not want to go to shooting spots, her father encouraged her and felt she was lucky and talented to grow up as an actor.
She did her education from home in private and completed her MA course in correspondence. She had the best opportunity to act and shine as an actress in many Malayalam movies under talented directors of Mollywood such as ‘Padmarajan’, Sibi Malayil, Sidharth Bharathan, K S Sethumadhavan. She was an anchor for Raj TV’s show that was titled as Rohini’s Box Office in which she reviewed the latest releases of Kollywood. Also, she hosted the live talk show ‘Kelvigal Aayiram’ for Vijay TV.
Plus, she was also a narrator of a Tamil program ‘Azhagiya Tamizh Magal’ that was aired on Kalaignar TV. Her noteworthy movie project ‘Appavin Meesai’ is still to see the light of the day. After 2012, she stepped into essaying character roles in Tamil movies. In 2015, she appeared in a movie named ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’, where she played the role of Shivudu's mother. Her film ‘Nenu Sailaja’ starring Ram Pothineni and Keerthy Suresh in lead roles was released in January 2016. She got married to famous actor Raghuvaran in 1996 and had been separated in 2004. They have a son named Rishi Varan, who was born to the couple in 1998.
