Married to the Tamil kutti, Amala Paul, A.L. Vijay is a Tamil, film director. He was born on 2 May 1979, in Tamil Nadu. He studied under Priyadarshan, who is an Indian film director, producer and screenwriter and has known to direct about 90 films in various languages.

Vijay’s father, A. L. Azhagappan was the president of Tamil Nadu Producers Council. Azhagappan made an appearance as one of the lead roles in the film Eesan, directed by M. Sasikumar. Vijay has a brother named Udhaya, who is an actor in Tamil films. Before becoming a director, Vijay was an advertisement filmmaker.

Under the banner Venus Ad Films, he completed more than 100 ad films. Vijay, being influenced by the ad works of Priyadarshan and others, claims that creating ads takes out the creativity and transfers it onto the screen with maximum impact in minimum time.

He won CNBC’s Best Corporate Advertisement Award in 2009 for his commercial for the State Bank of India. From an advertisement filmmaker, Vijay started his career in feature films in 2003. He started out in the directorial field as an assistant director for Priyadarshan and made his debut with Kireedam in 2007. Kireedam was a remake of the film directed by Sibi Malayil, under the same name in 1989.

The original was changed to about 80% for Vijay’s remake. The film got positive reviews from various critics and Vijay earned fame for taking a chance and daring to create an out of the ordinary movie. After Kireedam, Vijay once again worked as an assistant to Priyadarshan for the film Kanchivaram. After that, Vijay and Priyadarshan worked together for another film titled Poi Solla Porom, which was filmed in 34 days.

The movie won critical acclaim for good dialogue and originality. Madrasapattinam was one the biggest projects for Vijay, starring Arya and Amy Jackson, winner of the English Miss Teen World. The movie, a love story between an English woman and a launderer in India, was set during the 1940’s in Madras Presidency.

The film was dubbed in Telugu as 1947: A love story and got good reviews in both languages. The movie was nominated for numerous awards including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor for Filmfare Awards South and a song from the movie ‘Pookal Pookum” won the Best Song of the year at the Mirchi Music Awards.

Vijay is known to have connected with the audience and the actors to give the best. A few people such as cinematographer Nirav Shah, music director G.V. Prakash Kumar, production designer Selva Kumar and editor Anthony are part of his “regular crew”. On 12 June 2014, the director married the actress Amala Paul, and it was rumoured that they were expecting a first child.

Balanathan Benjamin Mahendran was born in a Sri Lankan Tamil family on the 20th of May 1939 and passed away on the 13th of February 2014. He was a cinematographer, film editor, director and a screenwriter. He has worked in some Indian film industries but mostly worked in the Tamil film industry. BaluManhendra had developed an interest in photography in his early years, as he graduated as a gold medallist in cinematography from FTII in Pune he first started his career as a cameraman. Balu Mahendra had married three times, his first wife was Akhileshwari who was the mother of his first son and in the year 1980 his second wife actress Shoba had committed suicide ending their relationship and also putting BaluMahendra and Akhileshwari in prison for four months as they were living in India Illegally. In the year 1998 he married again, BaluMahendra had married actress Mounika but declared his marriage to the public in the year 2004. BaluMahendra won the best cinematographer award from the Indian government for his first film called Nell which was Malayalam film released in the year 1947 and even since he has worked hard to win the best cinematographer award for about ten films because of his innovation in camera style. BaluMahendra won the National Film Award for his first directed film Kokila, which was a Kannada film. He was a brilliant director who had the ability to narrate visually a story and also handle camera editing all by himself. He won 6 National Film Awards.BaluMahendra went on to direct his first Tamil film AzhiyathaKolangal in the year 1979.He mostly worked for directors in Malayalam such as P.N.Menon and K.S.Sethumadhavan. BaluMahendra loved to experiment and explore the Indian film industry and did so by directing his first film in Hindi, which was a remake of MoondramPirai a Tamil film that was also directed by him. He also directed Aur Ek Prem Kahani which is also a Hindi film. BaluMahendrahad decided to be a filmmaker after he witnessed David Leans shooting for the film The Bridge on the River Kwai. Director Main Ratnam had offered BaluMahendra to work on his first Kannada film called Pallavi Anu Pallavi which Balu Mahendra agreed to work for with enthusiasm. Balu Mahendra also made sure he gave a message to his viewers that revolved around many social issues such as corruption and old age in his films like SandhyaRaagam.

Rajesh Selva is the man who had the privilege of directing the Universal Star Dr. Kamal Haasan. Rajesh is a young and vibrant Filmmaker and a screenplay writer in Kollywood. Even as a kid, Rajesh was active in extracurricular activities, especially in Music. He did his schooling in Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School at Chetpet. Rajesh wanted to venture into Direction, and this thirst for learning new things soon made him direct a movie. In the year 2008, Rajesh’s first directorial debut flick, Kaalapani, got released. The movie, which is a crime thriller, had Actors Vasundhara and Naseer in the lead. Rajesh was appreciated for delivering a worthy movie in his first attempt. In 2008, Rajesh Selva took a leap and joined the team of Actor Kamal Haasan. He worked as the third assistant Director to Kamal Haasan. He stayed with the archeological department and collected all the necessary information needed for Kamal’s movie, Marmayogi, which was supposed to be a historical thriller. Unfortunately, the film was never completed. He continued to work under Kamal Haasan, gathering as much as the knowledge he can from the legend. He was the Assistant Director for Uttama Villain and Vishwaroopam. In the year 2014, Rajesh parted ways with Raaj Kamal Films and went to direct movies on his own. Sadly, the offers he got did not happen. In the year 2015, Kamal Haasan came to his rescue. He wanted Rajesh Selva to direct the movie Thungavanam, a remake of the flick Sleepless Nights. He was given the freedom to select the cast and crew of the film. The movie had Kamal Haasan and Trisha in the lead. Simultaneously, Rajesh also worked in the Telugu version of the film. The flick was a box office hit and got mixed reviews from critics and the audience. Rajesh got married in the year 2012, to Janani and the couple live in Chennai. Rajesh is currently working on his second film, which is also with Kamal Haasan. The movie, produced by Director Lingusamy’s company, is reported to be a comical film that will have dialogues penned by the Veteran Moulee.
