Jayachandran is an Indian journalism photographer and reporter. He holds the position of Picture Editor in Chief of Malayala Manorama. He also directs and writes films as well as documentaries. He was born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He completed his schooling from Karamana Government High School and later got a Mathematics degree from Mar Ivanious College. He is trained and skilled in photography, painting, and decorations. He joined the largest circulated daily in the regional languages of India, Malayala Manorama, at the age of 25. As a director, he has directed the documentary “Kailash-Manasa Sarovar Yatra” for Malayala Manorama, and “Travancore, A Saga of Benevolence”.
His entire project on following the legendary Communist leader E M Shankaran Namboothiripad, for 16 years, was published by Malayala Manorama as a coffee table book titled “Portrait of a Long March”. Other special projects of him include “Words and Images” and “An Odyssey into the Landscape and Mindscape of Indian Writing” which explores the medium of photography of Indian writers. His work was also inaugurated by the Vice-President of India Krishen Kant at New Delhi and Thiruvananthapuram.
His awards and honors include a Special Award from Commonwealth Foundation in 1999, a UNICEF award in 1985, Best News Photography Award from Kerala state government in 1987,1993, and 1994, Best Sports Photography Award in 1992, News Photography Award from Trivandrum Press Club in 1990,1991 and from Calicut Press Club in 1990,1992, and 1993, and the Kerala University Award in 1984,1985,1989, and 1990
