Robert

Robert is an Indian choreographer. He mostly works in Tamil Film industry. He is officially known as Robert, but his full name is Robert Raj. He also acts; either as a villain or does cameos in his self-choreographed dance numbers. Although turning out to be a choreographer later in life, he started out as an actor. He played the role of Mammooty's son in the movie Azhagan in 1991.

He turned towards dancing in songs like “KallooriSaalai” in the filmKadhalDesamand in“EnnaAzhagu” fromLove Today. When he got older, he was cast as the main villain in the film Maaran in 2002. The film received positive reviews for the story-line. Robert played the role of a Shivadas, a son of an influential father. Robert was also in the movie Pavalakodi in 2003. But his performance was criticized saying he failed to give life to his funny dialogues. He had the role of being a deceitful friend to the character Shiva played by actor VijayaSarathy. Robert did a special appearance in the song “Pothuthaakku” from the movie Kuththu .

In 2005, Robert was cast as the immoral person in the film Dancer. The character he played was of Arun, who runs a Dance Institute. His act of being the villain was so believable that he received many praises for it. He received Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Villain in the same year. Since then he did cameos in the songs “Pathinoruperuaatamathapaarkarasigarkootam”, “Nalamdhana”, “NaanNadanthalAthiradi”, “Neduvaal”. In 2012, he received Vijay Award for best choreographer for the song “Love Panlama” in the movie PodaaPodi. Also, he did cameos in “Aasaiye Alai Poley”, “PadapadakkudhuManame”, “Chennai City Gangster” and“Onnunarendu”. Robert has an elder sister Alphonsa who mostly is a B-grade heroine appearing in item numbers.
