Sowmiya Venkatesan is a chef by profession. She did her senior secondary schooling in Marketing at Fr. Agnel School, New Delhi, India, and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Christ University, Bangalore. She did her post-graduation in Global Management from EMPI Business School. Her career began as a Market Analyst in the Software and Services Research Group of International Data Corporation (IDC) India Ltd. She then joined as a Senior Research Analyst at Frost & Sullivan. She then joined Hexaware Technologies as Manager of Market Research and Strategic Marketing. She also worked as the Competitive Marketing Manager at IBM. In 2011, she volunteered at NPS school and became the entrepreneur of Kerbside Gourmet. She also did product marketing at IBM for almost three years. She then introduced Kechil Kitchen, a Singapore enterprise focussed on creating meatless and plant-based options with natural, sustainable, and locally grown ingredients.
She co-founded vitality foods, a Singapore-based food tech for better-tasting plant-based foods. As a plant-based chef in Singapore, she worked with plant-based companies such as Tindle, Karana, Roquette, Unilever, Nestle, and Dole. She has also designed plant-based menus, culinary consulting, and food storytelling pop-ups with restaurants and organizations such as Fennel by Komala Vilas, Flying Monkey, RedDot Brewhouse, Podi & Poriyal, Plentyfull, V-Dinging by V-ZUG, WOMAG, Social Kitchen, Farmz.
