Yoshinori Tashiro

Yoshinori Tashiro is a famous Japanese Sumo wrestler, model, and actor. He was born on 13 July 1976 in Hachioji, Tokyo and started practicing sumo at a very early age. He attended elementary school in Fuchu and joined their sumo wrestling club. He won the title of Yokozuna, elementary school in 5 th and 6 th standards at the Wanpaku Sumo National Tournament. He then transferred to Nakano Junior and Senior High School which had a sumo program in the Meiji University. After graduation he joined the University of Meiji in Economics department. There, he also joined the sumo club and remained the team captain until his graduation in March. With the help of his college friend Tochiazuma, he entered the Tamanoi stable run by Tochiazuma’s father, Sekiwake Tochiazuma.

He made a professional debut in January 1999. He won the Jonokuchi championship after that and quickly rose to fame. He then debuted in the Makushita 3 rd division in May 2000. He spent the majority of his sumo career there, which includes 38 tournaments out of the 53 total tournaments that he played in his career. In September 2002, he reached between 1 and 15 ranks which are considered the top ranks of Makushita. Suffering from injuries and a gradual decline in his ranks, he retired from sumo in September 2007. He then worked in a supermarket owned by one of his stable members. In 2009 he wrote a book called ‘Everyone’s Grand Sumo- Sumo Wrestler’s Dosukoi Life You Don’t Know and published it. He then left the supermarket job to focus more on company management and talent business to use his skills acquired during Sumo.

He started his acting career around 2017 and was also a part of commercials.
