R Thiagarajan

Thiagarajan is an actor working in Tamil and Hindi movie and TV industries. He was a stage actor during his college. He won the Best Actor prize in an Inter-Collegiate drama competition held in Bombay. He worked in the Indian postal department and retired in 1997 as the chief postmaster general.

While he was in the postal service, he acted in many dramas with various drama troupes. As he was in a transferrable job, he associated with the drama troupes in those locations and acted in their dramas. He worked with the Matunga Dramatic Society in Bombay, South India Theatres in New Delhi, and Uthras in Chennai. While he performed in Vazhiya Bharatha Mani Thirunadu in New Delhi, the famous critic “Subbudu” appreciated his performance.

Thiagarajan performed in Manithargal Maralam, a drama in Chennai, which pleased the veteran director SP Muthuraman. He offered Thiagarajan, a role in his next film. However, as Thiagarajan was transferred and had to move out of Chennai, he was unable to accept the offer. After he missed this opportunity, he got to perform before the camera only after his retirement. In 1978, he worked for Madras Doordarshan as a newsreader. He was an All India Radio artist who participated in radio dramas. He is interested in classical music, and the December music concert brought him to Chennai, which helped him get a place in AIR.

After his retirement in 1997, he debuted in TV serials. K Balachander, the legendary filmmaker, introduced Thiagarajan to the TV industry with his serial, “Jannal.” SP Muthuraman, who remembered Thiagarajan, even after years, offered him roles in his TV serials. Besides working in TV serials, Thiagarajan has worked in many films and commercial ads.
