Manu Joseph is a Malayalam journalist and writer, born on 22 July 1974 in Kottayam, Kerala, and grew up in Chennai. Joseph joined Society magazine as a staff writer after dropping out of Madras Christian College. He has worked as a columnist for several print outlets, such as The International New York Times and The Hindustan Times, and is also the former editor of the OPEN magazine. In 2014, he resigned from the editorship of the magazine. His debut novel Serious Men won many awards: The Hindu Literary Prize, Huffington Post′s 10 Best Books of the Year in 2010, and PEN Open Book Award and was adopted as a feature film directed by Sudhir Mishra.
It got shortlisted for Man Asian Literary Prize and Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize. His second novel was published two years later, in 2012, named The Illicit Happiness of Other People. It got shortlisted for The Hindu Literary Prize in 2013. He has written screenplays for films and TV series as well.
