Sindhu Joy, a politician, was born and brought up in Ernakulam, Kerala. She is the daughter of George Joseph Chakkungal and Laila Joseph Veeramana. Sindhu has two younger siblings, a brother and a sister. Sindhu tied the knot with Santimon Jacob in 2017 and settled in Nottingham in the United Kingdom. Sindhu is popular in Kerala for her political activities. She did her schooling at St. Mary’s Convent Girls Higher Secondary School in Ernakulam and St. Joseph’s Convent of the woods English Medium Higher Secondary School in Thrikkakara. She did her under graduation and post-graduation courses in Political Science at Maharajas College in Ernakulam. She completed her Bachelor's degree in Education at St. Joseph College of Teacher Education for Women in Ernakulam. After that, she did a Post-graduation certificate course in Counselling at Kerala University. She went to Chips Software Pvt Ltd Kochi to pursue a P.G.Diploma in Computer Applications. She did her PG Diploma in Journalism at Bharatiya Vidhya Bhavan in Ernakulam. She did her Master’s in Philosophy and Doctorate in Political Science at Kerala University in 2009. Besides this, she did her Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship at the same University.
In 2006, Sindhu contested in the state assembly election from the Left Democratic Front at Puthuppally constituency. She contested against the then Kerala CM, Mr. Oommen Chandy Born on October 31, 1943, in Kottayam, Kerala, Oom >> Read More... . But, she couldn’t win the election and the CM won the election by more than 25000 votes. She had been the Vice President of the Students’ Federation of India. Sindhu was the President of the SFI Kerala State Committee. Sindhu Joy also contested in the parliamentary election in 2009. She contested from Ernakulam constituency against KV Thomas, an ex-Union Minister. Thomas won the election by 11000+ votes. She had been the Chairperson of Kerala State Youth Commission and she is the first chairperson of this commission.
Sindhu had been in the CPI- M. In 2011, she resigned from the party and joined Congress. Later, she quit politics and joined Surya TV in 2013 and worked as a News Presenter.
