Born on October 31, 1943, in Kottayam, Kerala, Oommen Chandy is a two-time previous Prime Minister of Kerala and an Indian politician. He is the son of Baby Chandy and K.O. Chandy. He got an education at St George in Puthupally. He completed his graduation from CMS in Kottayam and SB College in Changanassery. He got married to Mariamma Oommen. Later, he studied law at the Ernakulam's Law College and took his bachelor’s degree. While in school, he filled in as the President of Kerala Students' Union and was chosen President of the State Youth Congress in 1970. This was a start of his career as a politician.

Later, he turned into the Kottayam locale secretary of KSU in 1962-63. Amid this time, A.K Antony was KSU's state general secretary. The close bond developed between Oommen Chandy and A.K Antony.
