Neela Lohitha Dasan Nadar is a politician born on 28th August 1947 to KP Appi Nadar and A Kunjulekshmy. Neelalohithadasan is a law graduate and also has done a Ph.D. in Hindi. In 1964, he joined the Indian National Congress party and started involving in politics deeply. In 1967, he joined the State Youth Congress Committee as a member. In 1969, he became the President of the State Youth Congress Committee. He was also a member of AICC and KPCC. In 1972, he became the Chairman of Kerala University Union. After some years, he quit Indian National Congress and worked for the Congress For Democracy’s formation. He had been the State President of the Party. After the party merged with Janata Party, he joined Janata Party. He became the State Chairman of DSP and the Parliamentary Party leader. Later, DSP was converted to Lok Dal. Then, he became the National Standing Committee’s member and then the State President.
In 1977, he was elected from the Kovalam constituency as an MLA. He won the elections from the Kovalam constituency in 1987, 1996 and 2001 too. He had been the Minister of Law, Irrigation, Electricity and Labor and Housing in CH Mohammed Koya’s rule. In EK Nayanar’s reign, he was the Sports Minister and the Youth Affairs Minister and in Nayanar’s second tenure, Neelalohithadasan was the Transport and Forests Minister. In 1976, he founded the Kamaraj Foundation of India and was the Chairman. He was a member of the State Library Council. Yagadeepam, a monthly was run by him. In 1987, he launched Gandhian Balakendras. He is the Janatha Dal Legislature Party’s leader and Janatha Dal National Executive Committees member. He is the Janata Dal Secular’s State President.
Neelalohithadasan is married to a politician, Jameela Prakasam. She was an MLA. The couple has two daughters, Deepthi and Divya. Deepthi is employed in the Secretariat and Divya was working in Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre. Divya committed suicide on 29th August 2010.
