R K Damodaran

R K Damodaran is a famous Indian poet, lyricist, and composer who worked primarily in the Malayalam Film Industry. He was born on 1 August 1953 to Ramankutty Nair and Kalyani Kutti Amma in Kochi, Kerala. Damodaran married her classmate from Maharaja's college, Rajalakshmy, on 7 June 1985 and has a daughter, Anagha, born in 1986. He completed his BA, Malayalam from Maharajas College, Kochi, and Sankrit from Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan, Kochi. In his second year of BA, he debuted in the music industry in 1977 with the movie Raju Rahim by AB Raj as a lyricist. In his career of four decades, Damodaran wrote more than 118 songs for Malayalam movies and became popular in the South Indian Film Industry.

In a total of devotional, political, environmental, drama, and light music genres, including two Sanskrit songs, RK wrote around 3600 tracks. From 1982 to 2013, he worked as a journalist for a Malayalam daily, Mathrubhumi. He published a few books, wrote dramas, and learned the Chenda, a traditional percussion instrument of Kerala. Athunathanam and Kadharaavaneeyam are the two books collection of his poetry, and Amme Narayana and Aravana Madhuram are the devotional song collection by RK Damodaran. He has been an executive member of Samastha Kerala Sahithya Parishad since 2016, an executive member of Bharat Bhavan since 2012, and a member of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy since 2001 to 2004.
