Vinu studied at Boys Higher Secondary School in Karunagappally. He got married on May 19, 2013, to Vidya, his co-star in the Malayalam film, Ee Thirakkinidayil.

Ajantha was Vinu’s first movie, but it got delayed.  He also acted in Kanne Madanguka in 2005, but it was not the lead role. In 2007, he got his major break as he was cast in the Malayalam romance film, Nivedyam opposite Bhama, in the lead role. Vinu received the Best Newcomer award at the Asianet Awards for his performance in this film.
