Augustine was born on 30th July, 1955, in Kodenchery, Kerala, to Kunnumpurath Mathew and Rosi. Augustine was a famous Malayalam film actor. Augustine was famous in the industry for his brilliant comic timing and his command on negative roles. His career started in 1986 and he showed his skills, as an actor, till his last breath. He began his career as a theater artist. It was a multi-starred movie and Augustine was one of the stars. It was a Malayalam film. Sreenivasan was the lead character in it. Before this, in the year 1983, he did a role in the movie ‘Swapnalokam’, which was an uncredited role. The main star of the picture was Sreenath. After his first credited appearance on the silver screen, some movies lined up for him. His maximum roles were humorous in nature, which brought a comic element in his films. He did many films like ‘Commissioner’, ‘Eklavya’, ‘Aaraam Thampuran’, etc. He was a versatile actor and acted as a spice in the movies. He brought wit in the movies through his acting. Katha Parayumbol is one of his best ones. Though dark in complexion, he flourished well as an actor. The actor married Hannsamma and had two daughters, Ann and Jetthu. Ann followed her father's’ footsteps and made her career in the same line.

He could not have a long career due to his fluctuating health. In the year 2009, he suffered a heart stroke. He was taken to the hospital immediately and underwent a surgery. Through his strong will, he recovered and started acting in movies again. In April 2013, he fell in a hotel room. He was taken to a hospital in Pattambi, and he stayed there for a few months. Finally, in November, he died due to renal failure at a hospital in Kozhikode. He was just fifty-eight years of age then.  His last movie was Kadal Kadannu Oru Mathukutty.
