Kanhangad Ramachandran

Kanhangad Ramachandran is an acclaimed classical playback singer in Malayalam movies. He has sung number of songs and has composed for only one film. He used to perform in temples during Thyagaraja festivals and had also performed live shows in India and abroad.

He has achieved a new feat in playback singing and entered the Guinness Book of World Records by performing for 25 hours continuously, without any break. He has done 25,000 stages shows so far, and that adds another feather in his cap.

Born in Kannur, he had an inclination towards classical singing and had mastered in playing harmonium. He used to sing devotional songs with people flocking together in the temple with the accompaniment of his harmonium.

He is mainly specialized in larger-scale of devotional songs. His songs used to match the thoughtful sequences of words and music, with a particular theme or spiritual dimension which became a feature of his program. He has also performed for local community or charity events in and around and even at some ceremonies. He was a music teacher in a school in Kerala and now runs Vykhari Recording Studio and Music Teaching School that helps in bringing out local amateur talent in singing.

In the year 1995, he composed music for Georg Kithu's  'Sreeragam' which had singers like K.J.Yesudas, Kanhangad Ramachandran, K. S. Chitra, Supriya Chandran, Sreepriya Chandran lending their melodious voices for the songs composed by him. Lyrics were penned by Kaithapram.

He made his singing debut with ‘Panineer Mazha’ but unfortunately it never got released. It had music composition by M. K. Arjunan. However, the public could listen to his song when ‘Padmatheertham’ released in 1978 and the number he had sung was ‘Kaarum Karutha Vavum’ which had music composition by K. V. Mahadevan. Some of the popular movies for which he has sung include ‘ Kamaladalam Click to look into! >> Read More... ’, which had Mohanlal, Murali, Vineeth, Revthy in lead roles. The music was composed by Raveendran for the number 'Alaipaayuthey. Since most of the movies remained unreleased for unknown reasons, one can only remember his voice for a few Malayalam movies.
