Plot:

The film is set in a scenic village Kanjangad which is famous for its art form Theyyam. It attempts to throw light upon the rigid caste hierarchies and practice of untouchability that prevails in the region. How one’s caste determines the life chances that are available to him forms the crux of the story. The powerlessness of the lower castes and the suppression they suffer at the hands of the privileged castes is portrayed in the film.

Analysis:

Director Uthpal has successfully portrayed the disturbing caste structure in the rural land of Kerala. By setting the story in the land of Theyyam, an art form that is performed solely by members of the lower castes, the director and the crew successfully laid the foundational structure to weave a story on caste inequalities and suppression. The flow of the story is at many times, poignant and heart-wrenching. The movie does not fall into the category of popular cinema but has garnered commendable critic reviews. The performance of the lead actors, the cinematography and the narration is praiseworthy. The director has paid justice to the script and has captured the gruesome caste structure.
