The two times national award winning actor for supporting roles Dattanna alias HG Dattatreya was working in Air Force, but was interested in acting. He is one of the actors, who are highly qualified and also held a position as a principal in the management academy of HAL. Acting was his passion and so, he continued to do films regardless of awards. Although awards are definitely an encouragement for the actor, but to continue his journey in over 90 films that spanned over 26 years is indeed a remarkable feat. Darshan Thoogudeepa

Darshan also known as Darshan Thoogudeep is an actor from South India well known for his roles mainly in Kannada movies. He is known to be one of the most famous and credible film stars in the Kannada cinema industry. He was born on February 16th in the year 1977 in the city of Mysuru (then known as Mysore) in Karnataka. He was born to parents Meena and Thoogudeepa Srinivas (also known as Mysore Srinivas) one of the most well known evergreen actors in the history of Kannada cinema known for his notorious and villainous roles. After his father had died in the year 1995, Darshan had to struggle a lot before he had found his way to being one of the stars in the cinema industry in Kannada. He had entered the field at a very humble note by doing the lights and handling the camera. He sought to be an assistant under one of the most well-known cinematographers, B. C. Gowrishankar and had assisted him in various projects. Later he made an appearance in S. Narayan’s television serial where he played a minor role. Later he made supporting role appearances in a line of movies like ‘Mahabharatha’ in 1997, ‘Devara Maga’ and ‘Bhoothayyana Makkalu’ in 2000, etc. He had his big break when he became Hero in filmmaker P. N. Satya’s ‘Majestic’ which came out in the year 2002. He made his acting debut alongside other stars in the industry like Rekha, Harish Roy, and Jai Jagdish. It was later remade into ‘Charminar’ in Telugu. He was immediately signed on to a bunch of movies and had gained the recognition and love of thousands of fans. He appeared in many films and some of his latest being, ‘Bulbul’, ‘Ambareesha’ and ‘Mr. Airavata’ in 2015. He started his production house named ‘Thoogudeepa Productions’ in the year 2006. He married Vijaya Lakshmi, a chemical engineer in the year 2000 and they have a son together named Vineesh Darshan Thoogudeep. Their marriage faced a minor setback in 2011, which was then sorted out and now they lead a happy family life. He is known to be an animal lover and runs a miniature zoo in his farmhouse located in the eastern side of Mysuru.

Honnappa Bhagavathar

Honnappa Bhagavathar is a multi-faceted personality of South Indian film industry. Born on 14 January 1915, he was theatre artist, producer, singer, actor and musician. His role of singer is very much appreciated. He was working in both Kannada and Tamil films. Bharat Bhagavathar, his son, has also tested waters in acting in Kannada films. Honnappa Bhagavathar has worked in several Tamil films. He was living in Bangalore. He acted in the 1946 flick Sri Murugan, which was supposed to be done by Thyagaraja Bhagavathar. He shared screenspace with MGR in this film. Honnappa and Jeevarathnam gave their support as singers in this movie. Lalithakala Films is the production venture of Honnappa Bhagavathar. This venture produced movies in Tamil and Kannada. Honnappa entered into Kannada film industry with the 1944 flick Subhadra. M K Thyagaraja Bhagavathar was replaced by Honnappa in the flick Valmiki. Later Honnappa emerged as a star in both Kannada and Tamil films. Honnappa imbibed musical skills from his mother who used to sing devotional songs and bhajans, when he was young. He came to Bangalore looking out for a profession and there he became the student of Arunachal Ppa, an harmonium player, and relative Murthy. Honnappa was credited with the title Bhagavathar after the success of a play in Salem. This was at the juncture when Thyagaraja Bhagavathar was exhibiting his venture Ambikapathi. Renowned South Indian actress B Saroja Devi was introduced into the film industry by Honnappa. Nadabrahma Sangeetha Vidyalaya is a music institution founded by Honnappa in 1960. He was associated with Kannada Film Advisory Board and Karnataka Sangeeta Nritya Academy. Honnappa has received various awards including the prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy Award from Indian President (1990) and Best Actor award from Madras Sina Pyans Associations (1956). Honnappa breathed his last on 2nd October 1992 at the age of 77.
