Avinash Yelandur was born on 22nd December 1959 in the Yelandur town of Mysore, Karnataka. His parents were Indira and B.K. Narayana Rao Story Soon >> Read More... , who was a lawyer. He completed his studies at Hardwicke High School in Mysore, and graduated with a master’s degree in English literature from the University of Mysore. Avinash began his career as an English teacher at the National Institute of Engineering in Mysore and this continued to the Mysore Education Society (MES) College, Bangalore. He married actress and Television personality Malavika in 2001. This union blessed them with a son. Avinash was deeply fond of dramas and films even from a young age and actively participated in plays in the theatres in Mysore and later in Bangalore.
This led him to leave his job as a lecturer and pursue a new career in theatre. He trained at the Mermaid Theatre in London, and upon his return to his motherland, Avinash landed a job in the esteemed troupe of B. Jayashree’s “Spandana.” ‘Madhvacharya,’ a 1986 film by G.V. Iyer, marked the debut of the aspiring actor in which he played the role of young Madhvacharya. The film won several national and state awards such as the National Film Award for Best Music Director (1987), and the National Film Award for Best Production Design (1987), Avinash then went on to star in one of the most critically acclaimed films of K.N. Chandrashekar Sharma, ‘Samyuktha.’
This movie introduced Avinash to a new audience who loved the actor ushering him to mainstream cinema. Some of his notable works are: ‘Chinnari Muththa (1993), ‘Mathadana’ (2001), Dweepa (2002),’ and ‘Chiguridha Kanasu’ (2003). Being active in the film industry, Avinash has appeared in more than four hundred films working with over two hundred directors in a career spanning over three decades, making him one of the most sought-after actors in South Indian cinema.
