Chakravarthy Chandrachud

Chakravarthy Chandrachud is a well-known writer, director, and journalist from Karnataka. He was born on 15 August 1977 in Devnur, Chikmagalur District, Karnataka. He graduated in Engineering Instrumental Technology from Jaya Chamarajendra College in Mysore. Later, he earned a post-graduation in Psychology and History degree at the University of Mysore. He has also done M.Phil from Kuppam. He was a member of student unions like DYFI and SFI during his college days. As a journalist, he began writing when he was a college student. He has worked with Janamitra, a local newspaper in Hassan, and Mysore’s well-known daily, Andolana. He has worked with the weekly  Hai Banglore and Agni. he was also the editor of the popular weekly Lankesh Patrike.

He has earned his brand of journalism and got state awards for his investigative and environmental pieces. He is also a social activist. He has worked for the welfare of the environment and society. He founded the organization,  People For People and fought for the Kalasa Banduri Movement. He built his army that provided relief to the people of flood-hit areas of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Orissa. He was inspired by water conservationist Rajendra Singh and worked on several irrigation reforms. He always used to debate about decisive and path-breaking issues of social relevance.

As a writer, he has written his first book, Jana Jala Kranti, which is about the work of Rajendra Singh and Anna Hazare in the field of irrigation reforms. He has also earned a National Environmental Award. His other famous books are Khaali Shilube, Mailu Tutta, and Katha Bharata. These books have been translated into other languages and honored with various awards. He has directed the Kannada Movie Janma. He has also written movies like Melobba Mayavi, Janma, Mahuta, Paadaraya, and Love You Alia.
