2 States is a Bollywood romantic dramedy film starring Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor in lead roles. The film is the screen adaptation of a Chetan Bhagat Novel with the same name. The film deals with an issue contemporary to the Indian landscape: reservations and reluctance of parents and other senior family members over inter-state and inter-culture marriages.
The film gives this grave issue a very comic twist so that it holds some entertainment value. The film tells us about the struggle a young couple, in which both the persons are from radically different cultures, has to go through in order to get married. The trailer itself reflects how backward Indian mind sets still are as shown by the regular stereotypical dialogues being passed at each other by both the families. The trailer subtly points at the fact that the urban societies holding such ancient views only encourages rural societies to carry on with their savage practices like honor killing and other malpractices.
The trailer is phenomenally edited; like the serious scenes are immediately dispelled by a comic scene, this helps in keeping the viewer hungry for more! The film’s clever marketing strategies along with the quality of the film itself propelled it to the status of one of the best movies of 2014. The film received mixed reviews from the critics but was a commercial blockbuster.
