Naresh Malhotra is a prominent television serial director, a film director, a film producer, a film assistant director, a film editor and even had engaged himself quite often as assistant chief editor in filmmaking business in Bollywood. Naresh Malhotra was associated with many Yash Raj movies and even under
Ramesh Talwar home production movies as a chief assistant director which includes various successful movies like ‘
Basera’, ‘Sawal’, and even ‘Zamana’. It may be noted that Ramesh Talwar was an assistant director to
Yash Chopra and thus Naresh was an extremely lucky enough to wield camera for various projects that had several big names of Bollywood actors like
Hema Malini, Dharmendra, Rakhee, Rekha,
Rajesh Khanna and many others.
As a chief assistant, he got his credit with Yash Chopra for his highly successful movie ‘
Chandni’ that featured Sri Devi,
Vinod Khanna, and Rishi Kapoor. A year later, when Yash Chopra made another noteworthy movie such as ‘
Aamir Khan, and Vinod Khanna, Naresh got involved in the project. In his journey, as a chief assistant director, he got associated with screenwriters like Gulzar,
Javed Akhtar (Salim-Javed),
Aditya Chopra, Umesh Kalbagh and Mrs.
Kamna Chandra and Raju Saigal. Naresh Malhotra’s luck really kicked well after ‘Basera’ and ‘Doosra Aadmi’ was released. Before moving to Yash Chopra’s camp and Ramesh Talwar’s Camp, Naresh served as an assistant director to
Asit Sen and did movies like ‘Safar’, ‘Anokhi Raat’ etc.
As an editor, he performed creditably well in highly successful movies like Yash Chopra’s ‘Kabhi Kabhi’, Rajiv Rai’s ‘
Yudh’ and ‘Tridev’. His last movie in which he worked as an editor includes ‘'Ishq Ne Krazzy Kiya Re '(2015) which he had directed too. As a chief assistant editor, his credit was given for movies like Yash Chopra’s “
Deewar”(1975), “Daag-A Poem of Love”(1973), B.R. Chopra's “Dastaan” (1972). The last movie where he worked as chief assistant editor was ‘Doosra Aadmi’ (1977) directed by Ramesh Talwar.Naresh Malhotra’s next innings was too a turning point in his career. He made his debut as a full-fledged movie director with ‘
Yeh Dillagi” (1994) which was a successful movie under Yash Chopra’s banner.
After serving as an assistant to Yash Chopra, Asit Sen, and Ramesh Talwar, Naresh Malhotra directed few movies like 'Dil Ka Rishta'(2003) that featured
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, in lead roles, "
Kranti"(2002) was another movie with Vinod Khanna,
Bobby Deol. Film "Achanak" (1998) starred Govinda and
Manisha Koirala and 'Yeh Dillagi" (1994) had featured Kajol,
Saif Ali Khan, and
Akshay Kumar. He even made his foray into TV direction and directed a TV series titled’ Kismat” which was telecast on Sony Entertainment TV channel and produced by YRF television. The thriller drama series included 64 episodes and was telecast in the night from Monday to Thursday.Very few would recognize him as a producer of the
Amitabh Bachchan starrer Shahenshah (1988) along with
Tinnu Anand and Bitu Anand. Later, he realized that the film industry would go sea-change and TV industry would see a boom in the coming decade. This is one reason that he made a transformation to his career and set up first digital audio studio in the 1990s. The studio would provide equipment rental services to film and TV makers. He is a veteran in media and entertainment industry.
