Born on February 8, 1932, in New York City in USA, he is a Julliard pass out. His parents Esther and Johnny Williams were residents of Floral Park. In LA, he attended the North Hollywood High School and then graduated from UCLA. He then joined the Air Force where he also composed music for the Air Force Band. In 1955, he came and attended the famous Julliard for learning piano. He worked as a jazz pianist. He has been a composer for many TV shows and also been a part of a couple of bands. In 1956, he married Barbara and had three kids with her. In 1980, he married a photographer, Samantha Winslow.

His early works include 1959’s Peter Gunn, Days of Wine And Roses from the year 1962 and Charade that came in 1963. His earliest Television ventures include The Time Tunnel, The Bachelor Father and also the famous Lost In Space.

In 1962, he gave music to the very famous adaptation of “To Kill a Mockingbird”. He has nominated for the Academy Awards too. Their combined projects as Steven says include the very famous Jurassic Park, E.T., Schindler’s List, Catch Me If You Can, Munich and Lincoln. He has also given music to three Harry Potter movies. In1978, he composed music for the movie Superman.
