Mary Steenburgen is one of the most well-known actresses in the history of the Hollywood film industry. She received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film ‘Melvin and Howard’ as ‘Lynda Dummar’. She also received the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for the same. She was born on the 8th of February in the year 1953 to Maurice Steenburgen and Nellie Mae Steenburgen. She was born in the city of Newport in Arkansas in the United States where her father worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a freight train conductor and her mother as a secretary for a school board.

After completing her high school education, Mary joined the Hendrix College in Conway in Arkansas where she underwent training in drama.
