Mariana Brito da Cruz Forjaz Secca, popularly known as Maro, is a Portuguese singer and songwriter. She was born on 30 October 1994, in Lisbon, Portugal. Maro is the middle child of João Pedro Basto Forjaz Secca and Cristina Isabel Capello Brito da Cruz. Because of her love for animals, she wanted to become a vet but decided to pursue her passion for music instead.to study music she went to Berklee College of Music in Boston. After her graduation in 2017, she moved to Los Angeles, where she released several self-written albums. She has a huge presence on YouTube as well, where she posts herself with multiple artists like Salvador Sobral, António Zambujo, Mayra Andrade, Rosa Passos, Eric Clapton, and a lot other artists.
She not only collaborated with artists but also supported a few of them throughout her career, like Charlotte Cardin, Jessie J, and Fatai. She is also featured on the track "Better Now" by Odesza, which is the second single for the album The Last Goodbye. Some of her popular studio albums are Maro, vols. 1–3, It’s Okay (2018), and Can You See Me? (2022). She has written several singles as well, which have been appreciated by the fans from the very beginning. Some of her singles include Midnight Purple (2019), Mi condena (2020), Tempo (2021), Saudade, saudade (2022), Am I Not Enough for Now? (2022), It Keeps on Raining (2022), Like We're Wired (2022), etc. Apart from albums and singles, she also recorded songs as a featured artist. Better Now (Odesza feat. Maro), Lua (Jacob Collier feat. Maro), and Walk Above the City (The Paper Kites feat Maro) are some songs by Maro as a featured artist. Maro competed and won the Portuguese national final, Festival da Canção, with her song "Saudade, Saudade".
