Aliona Munteanu also popularly called as Aliona Mon was born on 25th May 1989 in Moldavian which is the present-day Moldova. She is a celebrated Moldovan singer. Aliona’s passion for music was cultivated by her mother at a very young age. Traditional Moldavian songs and lullabies sung by her mother inspired and influenced the little Aliona. Even as a child, she was part of many artistic collectives, where she performed both music and dances. She was an artist talented in the art of singing and dancing.
She was brought to the limelight when she participated in the talent show Fabrica de Staruri 2 where she has positioned the third place and won the title of the public’s favourite. She formed the band Thumbs Up along with her ex-colleagues from the talent show Fabric de Staruri. The band performed in various stages until its break up in 2011. She won several trophies at international musical festivals including Martisor Dorohoian and Dan Spataru festivals which were held in Romania. In 2013, she entered the Eurovision stage in Baku. She was the back-vocalist for Pasha Parfeny’s song which successfully reached the eleventh position in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2012. Aliona was selected to represent her country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 which was held in Malmo.
She sang the song “O Mie” which was composed by the celebrated composer Pasha Parfney. Pasha is expected to be back on the Eurovision to support and encourage Aliona on piano, as he did for the national selection final. The song was performed in Englis as “A million”, in Sweden Romanian version at the national preselection. The sprightly talented artist competed on The Voice of Romania where she finished in the fourth position in the final. She finished the fourth position in the first semi-final and the eleventh position in the Eurovision 2013 final.
The contest is annually conducted in Malmo, Sweden to in search of gifted musicians. The theme of the contest is based on the idea of equality and unity of all the participating countries along with its cultural diversity and influence of each participant. Instead of promoting its country Sweden aims at the exposure of other countries and their respective participants. The winner for 2013 where Aliona finished as the fourth was Denmark. The song was “Only Teardrops” sung by Emmelie de Forest which won 281 overall points with a margin of 47 points.
