Sue Vertue

Susan Nicola Vertue was born in Surrey on September 21, 1960. She is an English television producer who specializes in comedic series such as Mr. Bean and Coupling. She is the daughter of Beryl Vertue, a producer. She is Steven Moffat's wife and Beryl Vertue's daughter. Vertue worked for Tiger Aspect, a production firm led by Peter Bennett-Jones that produced Mr. Bean, The Vicar of Dibley, and Gimme Gimme Gimme episodes. In 1996, she met writer Steven Moffat at the Edinburgh Television Festival. They developed a connection and left their separate production businesses to join Hartswood Films, controlled by Sue's mother, Beryl Vertue. When she requested Moffat to write a sitcom for Hartswood, he focused on their own relationship's growth. The program was renamed "Coupling," and it debuted on BBC2 in 2000. Vertue produced "Doctor Who and the Curse of Fatal Death," a two-episode Doctor Who specially written by Steven Moffat for the Red Nose Day charity telethon in 1999. Around 2009, she relocated to Cardiff and opened a temporary Hartswood office there. Her husband, Mark Gatiss, and Steve Thompson wrote Sherlock, producing from that office. Hartswood Cardiff will relocate to a more permanent site in the planned "BBC Drama Village," located close to the Doctor Who production facilities.
