Andy Paterson is a British film producer and former second unit director. He is a renowned producer in Hollywood. His first movie won him Academy Awards. It was in the year 1995, that he co-produced a movie ’Restoration’ which was a 1995 American historical drama film directed by Michael Hoffman.

He produced the movie, Cary Brokaw. The film won two Academy Awards – one in Best Art Direction-Set Decoration for Eugenio Zanetti and another one in Best Costume Design for James Acheson The role was narrated by  Robert Downey, Jr.

His last film Gore which was produced by him remains an uncompleted American biographical drama film which is directed by Michael Hoffman. Principal photography on the film began in July 2017 and was considered to be released on Netflix channel during November 2017 but due to too sexual allegations, the company decided not to release the film at all.

In the year 2008, he produced another movie titled 'Incendiary that depicted the aftermath of a terrorist attack at a football match. The film was directed by Sharon Maguire and stars Michelle Williams, Ewan McGregor, and Matthew Macfadyen. It was also produced by Adrienne Maguire and Kami Naghdi who was a co-producer. He is married to Olivia Hetreed. He was educated at Bolton School and Oriel College, Oxford.

A student of film, he was an avid film watcher. So he made his first student movie. He was lucky to get associated with John Schlesinger, who later won an Academy Award for best director for Midnight Cowboy. It is John who advised him to think of camera and then search for scripts.

As a student, he had an idea of making short films, but then he thought it would be more proper to venture into a movie. His urge for filmmaking knew no boundaries. That is how he got the chance of coming into the business of making a movie, and the film was purchased by BBC.

A long time ago, there was no film school. He found a cameraman and an editor at London Film School and they handled the rest. The students worked on a script. But before such activities, Paterson was a Bolton School old boy, who had spent three decades making movies.

His career which started in Oxford with Hugh Grant’s first film. Now he has encompassed both Hollywood and independent films. It is his firm belief in cinema and arts that went to make Paterson an award-winning film producer.

After leaving Bolton School in 1977, he read Physics at Oriel College, Oxford where he and a group of colleagues, including his future wife, Olivia Hetreed, made their first film. That is how his journey in filmmaking began. After graduation, he worked for BBC TV news alongside Kate Adie and John Humphreys. After this he embarked on life as an independent filmmaker, producing a film.

His last project 'Gore' got canceled. However, his earlier project was rolled down in 2013 which was titled as 'The Railway Man’ and was directed by Jonathan Teplitzky. The film was an adaptation of the autobiography named The Railway Man by Eric Lomax and had famous stars, Colin Firth, Nicole Kidman, and the film was premiered at Toronto International Film Festival in 2013.

In 2012, Andy Peterson produced a movie titled 'Burning Man' along with director Jonathan Teplitzky which told the story of a British chef. In the year 2008, Andy Peterson made a British movie 'Incendiary' which was based on the terrorist attack at a football match. Sharon Maguire was the director of the film.

In the year 2003, Andy Paterson co-produced an American musical drama 'Beyond the Sea' which was directed, co-produced and co-written by Kevin Spacey. The film received a Golden Globe nomination.
