Yunjim Kim is an American theatre film and actress. She was born in Seoul, South Korea, on 7th November 1973. She at the age of 10, she and her family moved to America. Kim earned popularity for her role as Sun on an American television series, LOST, aired in 2004, and in Shiri (South Korean film) as a North Korean Spy, released in 1999, which was also her debut film. Her role as Dr. Karen Kim for the ABC drama series Mistress, aired in 2013, is very famous.

She had been a diligent member of her middle school’s drama club when she was in 7th grade, as a result of which she was offered to perform for the of My Fair Lady’s production. Hounding her acting career, Kim moved to the New York City, where she attended high school at the prestigious Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts, Manhattan.

Kim earned her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree in Drama by enrolling herself in London Academy of performing arts. In the fervour and avidity of becoming a fine actor, Kim studied acting, dancing, martial arts, and also boosted her academics and pronunciation with equal intensity. Kim was able to focus her time and energy on her acting career, only after finishing her academics. She landed various small roles in several minor parts on MTV and also tried her hands and luck in Opera-style dramas on American Broadcasting Company and Broadway Production agency.

Kim as a fine actress came into notice when she went back to her native land under the encouragement of various Korean Television Producers. When she reached Korea, she was post-haste cast in the Korean television series, Wedding Dress. Kim worked not only in Korea but also in various other Asian countries as well. Her debut film, Shiri was her first smash hit film, which was the highest-grossing film in Korean history of that time. She was called the ‘Korean Julia Roberts’.

Her projects in Asia included Ginko Bed 2, Mr. Iron Palm, Rush, Beautiful Vacation, Yesterday, Diary of June. Her Korean film, Ardor, earned her Blue Dragon Award for the best actress in 2002.The film Ardor not only made her earn the best actress award but for it she was also invited to participate in a Non-competitive section at the Berlin Film Festival 2003. An American agency, William Morris proffered Kim a three- year contract to Kim in 2003 for a hit television series, Lost which ran for six seasons.

SAG Award was awardedfor Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. In 2006, Kim was in the 98th position of Maxim’s annual Hot 100 lists and in the very same year, she was also featured on the cover of Stuff magazine. In 2013, Kim was doing a leading and prominent role in the ABC drama series, Mistresses. Kim has won a total of six awards in her acting career. Her popular television series in and outside Asia are, Splendid Holiday (1996), Foreboding (1997), Wedding Dress Drama (1998), Love In Three Colours (1999), Lost (2004-2010), Mistresses(2013-2016).

She has received plenty of awards in her acting career, 36TH GRAND BELLS AWARD 1999 and 19TH KOREAN ASSOCIATION OF FILM CRITICS AWARD 1999 for New Best Actress. She was awarded 23RD BLUE DRAGON AWARDS 2002 and 44TH GRAND BELL AWARDS 2007 for best actress. The ASIAN EXCELLENCE AWARDS, 2006 and 12TH SCREEN ACTORS GUILD AWARDS, 2006 were awarded to her for Outstanding Television Actress and Outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series respectively. In the March of 2010, Kim married her former manager Jeong Hyeok Park on the island of Oahu, Hawaii after shooting her final scenes for Lost.
