She was so good at her job that she received six Academy Awards nominations for her outstanding roles as a supporting actress. She also backed the Tony Award for her amazing performance as a Best Leading Musical actress for the film Musical. During her early days, she appeared in high school plays and stock companies. She was also given rigorous training as an actress in one of the well-known institutions called the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She was emerging as a stage artist but then took a hiatus to get her kids raised by husband, Joseph Moran. He was also an actor who then turned to an advertising executive.
