Martine Bartlett was an American stage, television and film actress. Martine Bartlett was born on 24th April 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri, US. Her father, George Daniel Bartlett, was an attorney and her mother’s name was Martine (Nee Fons). She did her schooling from John Burroughs School and graduated from Washington University. Martine took master’s degree from the Graduate Drama School, Yale. Martine made her debut on television in the year 1956 by appearing in an episode of ‘The Man Who Vanished’. Further, she acted in the episodes of TV series like ‘The Twilight Zone’, ‘Dr. Kildare’, ‘The Fugitive’ and a few more. In 1964, she received a nomination for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Performance in a Supporting Role Female for her role of Miranda in the TV series ‘Arrest and Trial’; she appeared in the episode ‘Journey into Darkness’. She came back to Broadway in 1957 and appeared in ‘The Square Root of Wonderful’ by Carson McCuller; she played the role of Loreena Lovejoy in the series starring Anne Baxter.
Martha played the role of kindly ‘Aunt Nonnie’ in ‘Sweet Bird of Youth’ (1959), an original Broadway production of Tennessee Williams. In 1961, she made her debut in the films by playing the role of an English teacher, Miss Metcalf, in the movie ‘Splendor in the Grass’. Further, Martha appeared in the films like ‘Lord Love a Duck’ (1966), ‘No Way to Treat a Lady’ (1968), ‘Fuzz’ (1972) in which she played the role of a delusional prostitute named Sadie, ‘Kansas City Bomber’ (1972) and many more. She was well acclaimed for her performance in a TV movie ‘Sybil’ (1976); she portrayed Hattie Dorsett, a psychotic mother. She last appeared in the episode of the TV series ‘Remington Steele’ in 1983. She died due to kidney disease in Tempe, Arizona; she was of 80 years when she died.
