Helen Hunt, an American actress, a screenwriter and a film director was born on 15 June 1963 in Culver City, California. Her father is an acting coach and film and stage director. At the age of three, Helen’s family moved to
New York City. There she started attending plays. She also studied Ballet in New York. For a brief time, she went to attend University of California, Los Angeles.
In the 1970s, she has worked as a child actress. Her work as a child actor includes' The Mary Tyler Moore show' that is an American sitcom, appearance in an episode of 'The Bionic Woman', and 'The Swiss Family Robinson'. She appeared in an episode of 'The Facts of life', which is an American sitcom series. In 1982, she starred in a T.V. movie called 'Desperate Lives', with a strong anti-drug message. In the same year, she appeared in another sitcom series called 'It takes two'. In mid-80s she played a role in 'St. Elsewhere' that is an American medical drama series. She appeared in another T.V. movie called 'Bill: On his own'. In 1985, she appeared in the film called 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun'. She played the lead role in short-lived series called 'My Life and Times', in 1990s. Later in 1990’s she appeared in series 'Mad About You'. For this series, she won Emmy Awards in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999. In 1997, she starred in a romantic comedy film 'As good as It Gets', and won The Academy Award for best Actress for this film in 1998. She also happened to direct several episodes of this series. In 2006, she appeared in the film '
Bobby'. She debuted her career as a director on the big screen with the 2007 American comedy-drama film called 'Then She Found Me'. She appeared in the film as an actress too. She starred in the movie '
Soul Surfer' (2011), which is a biographical sports drama. The next year she appeared in American drama film called '
The Sessions'. Currently, she owns a company with Connie Tavel under Sony Pictures Entertainment.
In 1999, she got married to actor
Hank Azaria. They got seperated after one and a half year. Later, she married director Matthew Carnahan. She is a mother to a daughter who was born in 2004. She has received various Awards for her performances in different movies.
