She is a multi-talented personality with acting, comedy, writing, directing, and producing being her work interests. She was born in San Francisco, California to James Tyler and Robin Gregory. When she was 10, her parents had a divorce by mutual consent and her father raised her. She developed an early interest in comedy and enrolled herself in an exclusive program at McAteer High School, San Francisco. She attended high school with Margaret Cho and Sam Rockwell. She graduated in 1992 from Dartmouth College, New Hampshire. Aisha married Jeff Tietjens in the same year. She moved to Los Angeles in 1996.

She debuted as a television show host in 2001 on “Talk Soup” and reality dating show “The Fifth Wheel.” Her role in the play “Moose Mating” fetched her NAACP Image Award. It was a successful venture for her with the podcast surpassing 4 million downloads in 2012. In October 2011, Tyler replaced Holly Robinson Peete as a permanent co-host on “The Talk”.
