Jonathan Pryce also known as John Price is a Welsh Singer and an actor. He studied dramatics at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and started his career in the movie industry when he was 23. He started working in theaters and even many awards for his performance in the theaters. He is known for his performance in the movie Brazil in the year 1985. Pryce also appeared in many high budget movies which include Tomorrow Never Dies, Pirates of the Caribbean, GI Joe: The Rise of the Cobra, and Evita.

He received two Tony Awards for the movie Comedians and Miss Saigon. He is nowadays recognized for his work in the famous HBO television series Game of Thrones. Pryce was born on 1st June 1947 in Carmel, Flintshire, Wales, United Kingdom. His father’s name was Isaac Price, who was a coal miner and his mother’s name was Margaret Ellen who used to run a grocery shop. He completed his high school education at Holywell High School. After completing his high school education, he went to the Edge Hill University to pursue his graduation in teaching. While studying at the University, Pryce used to take part in various theater shows and used perform in them. He later joined the British Actor’s Trade Union named Equity. That was the time when he changed his name John Price to his stage name Jonathan Pryce.

One of his tutor, who was impressed by his performance sent his application to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Pryce was awarded with a scholarship, and eventually, he decided to pursue a career in acting. Apart from studying at RADA, Pryce also used to work as a part-time salesman. After graduating from RADA, Pryce joined the Everyman Theater Liverpool Company and became the theater’s artistic director. Later he also performed with the Nottingham Playhouse and Royal Shakespeare Company. In the year 1980, he appeared in the lead role in the show Hamlet at the Royal Court Theater. He even won an Oliver Award for his performance in the show. He also appeared on the big screen in the movie Breaking Glass in the year 1980.

In 1983, he appeared in the show Something Wicked This Way Comes where he played the role of Mr. Dark. In 1985, he made his breakthrough on the big screen with the movie Brazil. Terry Gilliam directed the movie, and Pryce played the role of Sam Lowry in the movie. Pryce played the lead role in the show Macbeth produced by the Royal Shakespeare’s Academy. In early 2000, Pryce appeared in a bunch of movies which include The Affair of the Necklace in 2000, What a Girl Wants in 2003, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.

Though all these movies did average business at the box office, some of his movies were blockbuster hits. Some of these movies include movies like Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, New World, The Brothers Grimm and much more. In the year 2015, he was approached by the HBO to play the role of a High Sparrow in Game of Thrones. In the year 1983, Pryce was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in Saturn Awards for the movie Something Wicked this Way Comes. He was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in the Primetime Emmy Award for Miniseries or a Movie for the movie Barbarians at the Gate. Pryce married his childhood sweetheart, Kate Fahy in the year 1981. They currently reside in London with three children.
