Born on December 3, 1994 as Jake Austin Szymanski, Austin is the son of Giny Toranzo, who has Puerto Rican, Argentine and Spanish roots, and Joe Szymanski, who has Polish, English and Irish roots. He has one younger sibling, Ava.Â
Austin’s started appearing on TV through commercials in 2002. In 2003, he landed an acting role in the Late Show with David Letterman. He got his big break in 2004, when we became the voice of Diego in Dora the Explorer. He continued to voice Diego in its spin-off, Go Diego Go, for the next three seasons.
Austin has also voiced roles in The Ant Bully and Everyone’s Hero.Â
In 2007, he played Chris in the Disney movie, Johnny kapahala: Back on Board. Later that year, he got the role of Max Russo in the Wizards of Waverly Place, with co-stars
Selena Gomez
and David Henrie.
In the film Rio, he voiced the role of Fernando and orphaned Brazilian boy. He did the same role in the sequel Rio 2.Â
In 2011, he starred in the romcom New Years Eve and proceeded to land a guest role in the legal drama Law & Order:SVU.
His next major role was in 2013, when he was cast as Jesus Foster in the drama series, The Fosters. He played in the show for two seasons until he left the show in the season finale of the second season in 2015.Â
Austin spends much of his time contributing to various charitable causes including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to children who have life-threatening medical conditions. He also is a part of the Starlight Children's Foundation, which is dedicated to amelioration of the quality of life for kids with chronic and life-threatening medical conditions, and Variety's Power of Youth initiative, which collaborates with child celebs to aid raise money for their chosen causes.Â
He currently lives with his parents and his younger sister Ava. He also has a Youtube channel named Jakeethekid and has written and sold his first screenplay ‘Kings of Suburbia’, taking inspiration from his favorite film Stand by Me.
