David Prowse is an English actor and renowned bodybuilder. He was born on July 1, 1935, in Bristol, England in the UK. He was raised in the Southmead Housing Estate and earned a scholarship to Bristol Grammar School. During his teenage years, he stood 6’6 and had his passion for bodybuilding. Initially, he has worked as a bouncer and lifeguard. He earned success at the championship of British heavyweight weightlifting. David represented England in the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Australia in 1962. Since then, he moved to London and worked in a weightlifting company in 1963.

He started acting in 1967’s spy comedy film, Casino Royale. In the year 1981, David has done a small role in Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. He was also seen in the first series of the children’s fantasy TV show, Ace of Wands and played as a bodyguard in James Mitchell’s Callan.

In 1978, he played as the duke’s wrestler in BBC’s As You Like It. He was the one who trained Christopher Reeve in Superman and its sequels. In 2009, he revealed that he has prostate cancer and has done radiation therapy.
