While speaking to ‘The Guardian,’ he told that there were periods of loneliness and he had to do a few odd jobs. He started off his acting career by doing theater in Dublin playing Nick Bottom in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” before moving to London.
In London, Gillen auditioned for many roles and finally got selected to portray Stuart Alan Jones in the controversial and popular television series “Queer as Folk.”Gillen acted so well in this that he received the British Academy Television Award and was also nominated for Best Actor.
