Diogo Morgado is a Portuguese model and film actor, who became popular for his portrayal of Jesus Christ in the mini-series, The Bible, on the History channel and the epic biblical drama film, Son of God. Diogo was born as Diogo Miguel Morgado Soares on January 17, 1981, in Campo Grande, Lisbon in Portugal. Diogo started his career at the age of fifteen after joining the cast of the 1998 top-rating TV series, Terra Mãe, and Diário de Maria. In the year 2000, he was also cast in Victor Cunha Rego’s A Lenda da Garça and Wilson Solon’s A Febre do Ouro Negro. His portrayal as Miguel in Amo-Te, Teresa, made him one of the most promising actors in his country. Since then, he has worked consistently in over 15 TV series.
One of his greatest performances is from the 2009 TV series, A Vida Privada de Salazar when he portrayed the life of famous Portugal dictator, António de Oliveira Salazar. His comedic act was also showcased in Carlos Coelho da Silva’s O Crime do Padre Amaro in 2005; which earned a positive response from directors around the world. Diogo is also an aspiring theater actor and was starred in eminent stage plays such as The Royal Hunt to the Sun and Skylight. Aside from Portugal, Diogo was also starred in few international films. In Spain, he played as Vicente in Miguel Ángel Calvo Buttini’s Dos Rivales Casi Iguales. He is also part of The Jungle and Revelação in Brazil. In 2014, he took the lead role in the US independent films, Red Butterfly and Alex Ranarivelo’s Born to Race: Fast Track.
He also appeared as Eduardo in Sol de Inverno and Virados do Avesso. Diogo earned popularity and fame in the US after he portrayed Jesus Christ in the film, Son of God, where he received a nomination at the Imagen Awards. He also played the same role in the TV miniseries, The Bible. He was also seen as Dr. Jorge Velez in the American drama series, Revenge. In 2015, opposing his role as Jesus Christ, he played as a devil in the TV series, The Messengers, which was aired on The CW. Diogo is also popular in his country after he participated in GQ’s Men of the Year. Aside from Portuguese, he is also fluent in speaking French, English, and Spanish languages. He had a relationship with actress Sofia Duarte Silva that lasted for two years (2002 to 2004). He has a son named Santiago to Catia Oliveira.
