Steven DePaul is a television director and producer from the United States. On NYPD Blue, he had a long history as a producer and director.
DePaul was born in the New York City neighborhood of Washington Heights. He attended Clark University and majored in English, graduating in December 1972. He helped to book musicians to perform on campus and at the Clark Coffeehouse. DePaul started working on rock and roll tours after graduation, first as a roadie for Poco. DePaul then relocated to Los Angeles to work on programs like Cop Rock, Civil Wars, and NYPD Blue for producer Steven Bochco. He directed several episodes of NYPD Blue during his 11-year tenure on the show. He left NYPD Blue in 2004 to work as a freelance director, which he still does today. He has traveled extensively throughout the world, visiting all six continents.
In 1995, he won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series as the producer of NYPD Blue. On five other occasions, he got nominated for NYPD Blue in 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999. In 1993, he received a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama and a George F. Peabody Award for "Raging Bulls" (Season 6, Episode 8), which he directed for NYPD Blue.
