Stacy Cochran is an American film director/screenwriter/producer. She was born in Passaic, New Jersey, USA. She majored in Political Science from Williams College and received her MFA in film from Columbia University. She independently wrote and directed some movies in the 1990s. She converted her thesis script My New Gun into a comedy film as soon as she completed her MFA degree. The movie premiered at Director’s Fortnight at Cannes in 1992 and received a chance to be nominated at Independent Spirit Award for bringing The Best First Feature.
The movie received enthusiastic responses. She went on to write and direct Boys in 1996. She directed a short film Richard Lester! about director Richard Lester in 1998. After writing the screenplay for Drop Back Ten in 2000, she took an 18-year break due to her having to raise three children. Her most recent work was Write When You Get Work in 2018 which is a love story received Tito’s Handmade Vodka Award at the Asbury Park Music & Film Festival and the New York Showcase Award at the Harlem International Film Festival.
