Born on February 2, 1962, Orcutt is an American guitarist and composer. Earlier he was known for co-founding Miami noise rockers Harry Pussy during the early '90s. His work unites elements of blues, punk, and free improvisation. During his teens, he started playing guitar, got inspired by seeing Muddy Waters in The Last Waltz. Further, Orcutt has a Master's in English and has made various experimental short films. He sold one short film to MTV in 1990. Before forming Harry Pussy in 1992 with his then-wife, drummer Adris Hoyos, he had also played in several local punk bands, prominently the Trash Monkeys.
Further, the couple worked together for the next five years, releasing a series of the firm and confrontational recordings on small labels. Also, the group recorded three LPs and toured the US frequently. He has appeared at festivals in the US and Europe, including Hopscotch, Incubate, Le Nouveau Festival du Centre Pompidou, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, Donau, and Big Ears 2009. After Harry Pussy's breakup and the couple's divorce, he resumed performing. Released records in 2009, created a label named Palilalia Records to issue his work.
His style had evolved toward a brash startling variation of blues playing, his acoustic guitar. Following numerous limited 7" and LP releases and well-received performances on free-form radio station WFMU, Editions Mego began publishing Orcutt's work in 2011. Orcutt performed at many festivals as a solo artist. Although a solo performer, he has also performed with Loren Mazzacane Connors, including Chris Corsano, jazz artist Peter Brötzmann, and Okkyung Lee. Later released a split LP with Sir Richard Bishop in 2014. He released a self-titled electric album in 2017, and in the next year, Orcutt and Corsano joined for the frenetic and punky collaborative album Brace Up! In 2019, Orcutt returned with a subdued solo collection, Odds Against Tomorrow.
