Stephen Tyrone Colbert was born on May 13, 1964, in Washington, D.C. in America. He is one of the most famous comedians of America and is popularly known as the television host of his show "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" and is also an author. He was born and bought up in a Catholic family and is the youngest one out of his eleven siblings. His dad James William Colbert, Jr., used to work as an immunologist and was appointed as the head of the medical faculty at Yale University, Saint Louis University, and also at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he worked as the vice president for academic matters. His mother, Lorna Elizabeth Colbert, was a housewife. When he was a decade old, he lost his dad and two elder brothers in a plane crash on September 11, 1974. His mother then moved the rest of the family to the more urban part of East Bay Street in Charleston. He went on to study at the Charleston's Episcopal Porter-Gaud School, where he actively participated in many school dramas and supported the school periodical but was not so good at academics.
He wanted to study marine biology but a surgery which was meant to repair his severely perforated eardrum resulted in inner ear damage and the damage was so severe that it left him deaf in his right ear. He was confused whether or not to join college, meanwhile he was accepted as a student of Philosophy at Hampden-Sydney College of Virginia. After a few years, he enrolled into North-Western University and graduated as a theatre major in the year 1986. Post his graduation, he moved to Chicago and was working with the “Second City” comedy troupe and after taking improv classes there, for two years, he joined the Second City’s travelling gang and the next two years of his life were spent on the road.

The show went on to win many prestigious awards including several Emmy awards in the year 2013 and 2014 under the category of outstanding variety series. He also published his book “I Am America (and So Can You!)” in the year 2007. In December 2014, his show, "The Colbert Report" went off-air. In the following year, he replaced David Letterman, as the host of the “The Late Show”.
