Born in Hampshire, England, on 6th April 1954, Judi Bowker grew up with loving and supportive parents, Alfred J. Bowker and Ann Fairweather. Her childhood was filled with painting, ballet and horse riding, however, as she grew up, Judi Bowker chose acting as her most desired career and set on becoming an actress.
After her family returned to England from Northern Rhodesia, Bowker landed a role in the 1972 television series The Adventures of Black Beauty, which was an adaptation of the book of the same title. Her experience with riding horses paid off through her role in this series. In the same year, Judi Bowker appeared in Brother Sun Sister Moon as the character Saint Clare of Assisi.
The movie was directed by the famous Italian Director Franco Zeffirelli. Some of her popular works include Doctor Jekyll and Hyde (1973), Count Dracula (1977), East of Elephant Rock (1977), Clash of the Titans (1981), The Shooting Party (1985), and many more. Apart from appearing on the small screen, Judi Bowker also participated in theatre productions such as A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Macbeth (1978), Three Sisters, Ivanov, Sherlock Holmes, Copperfield (2021), etc.
Though her role as Princess Andromeda in Clash of the Titans brought her to the forefront of American cinema, in England, Judi Bowker was recognized as a mainstay of British television. Her versatility and passion for the art brought her international acclaim as both viewers and critics praised the actress for her performance and innocent beauty.
Judi Bowker kept her passion alive in show business by working in various fields. In 2018, she worked as a narrator for a BBC audiobook adaptation of a work by P. D. James. Bowker tied the knot with fellow actor and playwright Harry Meacher in 1979, and together, they co-founded the Pilgrim Theatre Company in 1991, after which Judi stepped away from the film industry and began to focus more on her career in theatre.
