After securing a Bachelor Grade in Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 1978, Doyle became a commercial airline captain and an operator on Wall Street ten years thereafter. When he relocated to Los Angeles in 1991, he shifted vocations to performing all of a sudden. Doyle's first breakout role was as Chief Warrant Officer Michael Garibaldi in Babylon 5, and from 1996 to 1997, he provided the vocal of Captain Simian & the Space Monkeys in the animated programme Captain Simian & the Space Monkeys. He has come as a celebrity guest on series including Beverly Hills, 90210, NYPD Blue, and Martial Law, and had a nation-wide syndicated daily radio show in the United States.
Other ventures included a television series called Keep 'em Flying, which he co-produced with Babylon 5 producer John Copeland that centred on the aircrafts of the Second World War. He made numerous visits on Newsmax Media TV and was a familiar face on Fox & Friends.
Doyle was wedded to Andrea Thompson, his Babylon 5 co-star, from 1995 until 1997.
Following his portrayal as Michael Garibaldi, Doyle contested for the Republican Party in the United States House of Representatives in California's 24th congressional district in 2000. He secured the nomination without splurging any finance on the campaign, but he was vanquished by Democratic incumbent Brad Sherman in the general election on November 7, 2000.
He has also authored four novels: Chessie System Diesel Locomotives, Chesapeake & Ohio Diesel Locomotives, And the Rains Never Came, and Have You Seen My Country Lately. Â
