Gary Sweet is one of the most legendary and award winning names in Australian film industry. Born on 22nd May 1957 in Melbourne, Australia, Gary grew up in Warrandale where he studied in Brighton High School. He did not have any initial plans getting into film industry, he obtained a teaching degree while he was at Sturt Teacher’s College, where he also took up drama to study, hence his interest in acting rose up. Gary’s first feature film as a debutant was a very brief cameo in the low budget horror flick Nightmares released in 1980s.
In 1984, Gary made his full featured acting debut where he portrayed the legendary cricketer, Don Bradman in a mini-series produced by Network Ten. His next flick was another classic, in 1987, he starred in The Great Bookie Robbery, which was a TV movie released solely for television. The movie went on to become highly praised and also won a few awards. Later in 1994, he made appearances in The Battlers, a celebrated TV series. During the 1990s, he appeared in Police Rescue, a role that would go on to define Gary’s career, he appeared as Sgt.
Steve McClintock. This role helped Gary become super famous as he won several Australian awards like Film Institute’s awards and other national awards. He also had a stellar career on stage, Sweet has appeared in numerous stage productions. These include David Williamson's The Club, and in 2001, Tony McNamara's play The Recruit for the Melbourne Theatre Company.
